 – My name is Toni and I’m 26 years old.

– I’m from the island of  Menorca, Spain
What do you study?
– I studied a course in air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
What have you been doing in Jyväskylä?
– I did my practical training in airconditioning and ventilation at a work site in Laukka.
How long have you stayed in Jyväskylä?
– One month.
Do you think the time has been too short (why?), too long (why?), just perfect?
– One month is short. When you are in a new (work) place for just one month it is only enough time to learn basics of everything and to adapt to the new place.
How did you prepare for the stay/exchange to Finland?
– I took a course in English and looked for information about Finland.
What have you learned during your stay?
– I saw how work is done outside Spain, learned to work with lines and learned to live in a foreign country.
Give three (3) tops and tips (based on your own experience) to someone who is planning to come to Jyväskylä:
– Watch a game of ice hockey.
– Try the food (very different from the Spanish)-
– Visit each of the beautiful places that this country has.

Get together 27.3.2014

Laajavuoressa järjestettiin 27.3.2014 Get together -tapahtuma Jyväskylän ammattiopistossa vaihdossa oleville opiskelijoille.

Tapahtuman järjestäjinä toimi tekniikka ja liikenne -yksikön tuutorit. Tapahtuman ajatuksena oli tuoda ulkomaalaiset vaihto-opiskelijat ja kv-tuutorit sekä opettajat tapaamaan ja tutustumaan toisiinsa.

Mukana oli 4 unkarilaista ja 8 tšekkiläistä vaihtaria. Kv-tuutoreita paikalla oli kymmenkunta.

Ennen makkaran paistoa osallistujat vuolivat omat makkaratikut.

Aurinko paistoi ja oli loistava mäenlaskukeli.

Ajankuluksi pelattiin myös frisbeegolfia iloisessa tunnelmassa.

Czech Students in Petäjävesi

Who are you and where are you from?

We are 8 students; Katerina, Vendula, Kristina, Sylvie, Dominika, Stepanka, Lucie and Antonin  and one  teacher, Jitka, from Czech Republic from Liberec.

 What do you study?

Design and architecture

What have you been doing in Jyväskylä?

We attended school in Petäjävesi.  We worked there on a project which was led by a Finnish teacher,  we visited lots of museums, we visited the buildings by Alvar Aalto in this area (our projects name was:  „In the trace of Alvar Aalto“). We wanted to know as much as possible about Finland – the people, the design, the architecture, the culture, how people live, how they work, what they like…. Everything was very interesting!!!!

 How long have you stayed in Jyväskylä?

Two weeks

 Do you think the time has been too short (why?), too long (why?), just perfet?

Just perfect

 How did you prepare for the stay/exchange to Finland?

Language lessons with native speaker (students),  looking for information about Finland, looking  for information about Finnish architect Alvar Aalto.

 What have you learned during your stay?

Teacher Jitka Madlova: How interesting a stay in a different school is – It was very inspiring for my next work with students! I met lots of very nice people – they very very friendly and helpful. I saw very interesting architecture and museums. I love Finnish lakes and countryside very much, too.

 Students: We experienced something very different. We were affraid to go but loved the stay very much! Finally we did not want to go home to CZ !!! We learned not to be affraid to do new things, to meet new people, to try new ways of work. We learned lots about Finnish furniture design,  Finland, Finnish people, life in Finland, Finnish culture….

 – Give three (3) tops and tips (based on your own experience) to someone who is planning to come to Jyväskylä:

Tops:

– people – Manu Seamann – Finnish colleague teacher – very, very helpful! – perfect cooperation with him!

– Milka Niskanen – Finnish coordinator – very, very helpful.

– Manu´s colleagues in Petajavesi – very nice and friendly.

– Students in Petajavesi – very nice and friendly – they organized ice fishing for us for example and give us lots us useful tips where to go, what to see…

– Czech coordinators (Mr. Pavlu and Mr. Turek) – the prepare both of our journeys and our stay was perfect

Tips:

– Museums in Jyvaskyla – there are lots of them, different kinds and they are very interesting! We loved visiting them!

– Wonderful buildings – modern architecture, houses by Alvar Aalto, typical Finnish architecture….

– Lakes and countryside

Tietoa ja tilastoja 2013

Vuodenvaihteen tietämillä kaikki kuntayhtymän kv-toimijat kuumeisesti keräilivät tietoja viime vuoden toiminnasta ja pian onkin odotettavissa Cimon (Kansainvälisen yhteistyön ja liikkuvuuden keskus) julkaisemat valtakunnalliset tilastot kansainvälisestä toiminnasta viime vuodelta.

Jyväskylän ammattiopiston kansainvälisen toiminnan liikkuvuustavoitteena vuonna 2013 oli tarjota 200  opiskelijalle mahdollisuus vähintään jakson mittaiseen (6 viikkoa) työssäoppimis- tai opiskelujaksoon ulkomailla. Vähintään 6 viikon mittaisia vaihtoja toteutui yhteensä 180, joten lisäystä edellisvuoteen oli 16% vaikka kokonaistavoitteesta jäätiin 20 liikkujan verran.  Noin kolmasosa vaihdoista (57) toteutui hankerahoituksella (LLP, OPH) ja loput oppilaitoksen omalla rahoituksella. Vaihtojen keskimääräinen  kesto oli  seitsemän viikkoa eli myös vaihtojen kestoja pystyttiin hieman edellisvuodesta pidentämään.

Vastaanottavien maiden osalta (20)  lisäystä edellisvuoteen oli kuusi maata (Slovenia, Belgia, Malta, Kanada, USA, Brasilia). Suosituimpia kohdemaita olivat kuten aiempinakin vuosina Espanja (75), Saksa (35) ja Alankomaat (27). Espanjaan liikkuneiden määrä lisääntyi edellisvuodesta  yli 10 prosenttia, mutta suhteellinen osuus kaikista liikkujista pieneni.  Neljänneksi sijoittunut Puola (15) on myös lisännyt tasaisesti suosiotaan hyvien vaihtokokemusten ansiosta.  Lyhyempiin  opintovierailuihin (3-8pv) osallistui lisäksi 77 opiskelijaa (lisäystä n. 30%).

Opiskelijapalautteiden osalta vuoden 2013 aikana tapahtui selvää paranemista valmennuksen osalta. Yksi todennäköinen syy on vuoden alusta käyttöönotettu valmennuksen tarkistuslista. Ehkä se omalta osaltaan tekee opiskelijoillekin valmennusprosessin osaset paremmin ymmärrettäviksi? Kehittämiskohteista useimmin esiin nousivat vaihtojaksojen pituus ja äkkilähdöt. Useat opiskelijat ilmaisivat palautteen avoimessa osassa, että olisivat mieluusti olleet vaihdossa pidempään. Osa perusteli tätä lähinnä käytännön/taloudellisilla syillä (6 viikon vaihdoista ei saa korotettua opintotukea), mutta ilahduttavan moni myös oppimiseen liittyvillä syillä (‘just kun on kerenny oppimaan talon tavat niin joutuu lähtemään pois.’). Äkkilähtöjä palautteen perusteella tulee entistä vähemmän, mutta ehkä vieläkin liikaa. Näihin asioihin panostamme jatkossa.

Jyväskylän ammattiopisto vastaanotti vuoden 2013 aikana 106 opiskelijaa (lisäystä 10%) yhteensä yhdeksästä maasta. Eniten opiskelijoita saapui Saksasta (31) ja Tsekeistä (27). Vaihtojen pituus vaihteli 2-24 viikon välillä. Keskimääräinen vaihtojen kesto oli viisi viikkoa.

Design Across Borders – parts 1 and 2

Part 1

Jyväskylä College visiting Horizon College 23.9.2013-04.10.2014

Group of ten students and four teachers visited Horizon College (Hoorn) during 23.9.2013-04.10.2014. There were two main goals for the visit. The assignment for the students was to design the visual outlook for the student company fair to be held in shopping center Forum in Jyväskylä 15-17.11.2013.

This assignment was achieved and the visual decorations were printed in Jyväskylä College after the trip. The feedback from Mr. Aki Tuikka, the Manager of Forum was very positive and as well as the feedback from the student companies and their teachers.

The aim of the teachers was to develop an optional course or module for the students of Jyväskylä College that combines the design approach of Horizon College and already existing practices in Jyväskylä College. This development work was made by to support and mentoring of the teachers of Horizon College. This course/module was developed during the visit.

Outside these tangible aims the visit also brought in the language training (Dutch) for the students and cultural activities e.g. visits in Enkhuizen and Amsterdam.

 Part 2

Horizon College visiting Jyväskylä College 3.-14.3.2014       

 A group of twelve students and three teachers are visiting Jyväskylä College 3.-14.3.2014.

During the visit the students benchmark and participate in the lessons of different qualifications of Jyväskylä College. This benchmarking is organized through hands on activities and the students will different tasks related to designing, printing, multimedia and crafts.

Teachers are focused on the future exchange possibilities between Horizon College and Jyväskylä College. It was noticed that printing department and its workshop would offer an excellent environment for Dutch students to widen their vocational skills in designing qualification. During the visit teachers from both countries started to organize these future exchanges by comparing the curricula and deciding which specific tasks could be learned in Jyväskylä.

It was also discussed about sending Finnish students to Horizon College. The design qualification in Horizon College is suitable for many qualifications in Jyväskylä College. New ECVET system is a key element when planning these exchanges in order to make comparable assignments and learning outcomes for students. To proceed the teachers together made an action plan to follow and it was decided that first exchanges from Finland to Netherlands would take place in September 2014.

The background of Design Across Borders is the multisectoral cooperation of Jyväskylä College and Horizon College that is related to the annual event of Sensations organized by Jyväskylä College. This year the production of Sensations was the opera (Orpheus) and the Dutch students designed some visual elements for the production. Therefore one task for their visit was to attend the general rehearsal and premier of the opera to see their designing work in use.

The Dutch students also had similar language and cultural program like Finnish did in Netherlands.

Design across borders has been partly funded by LLP/Comenius funding (bilateral partnership).
